抄録(ABSTRACT)
An automobile headlight plays an important role to reduce crucial accidents. It secures driver’s visibility at night and gives a presence to road users such as pedestrians or other drivers. Automobile headlights are largely divided into the low-beam and the high-beam headlights. The low beam headlight has the characteristic light distribution called cut-off line pattern, which is the boundary between dark and bright. The cut-off light pattern makes it possible to secure the driver’s far visibility while suppressing glare to other vehicles. Recently, headlights have been using LED (Light Emitting Diode) as a light source, which consumes lower energy than conventional light sources, to conserve the environment. In addition, high-efficient headlight optical designs have been required. Automotive headlights also influence the car design. To adapt various designs, there are demands of the thin headlights. We have been developed the RIR (Refraction surface - Total Internal Reflection Surface - Refraction surface) optical system for headlights, which achieves both a thin design and a high-efficiency. In this paper, we explain the details of RIR optical system and introduce the unique optical modules for headlights.
