抄録(ABSTRACT)
The reconstruction project of the Kannon Hall of Seirin-ji Temple attempted to balance the protection of cultural assets and the religious public, not only by restoring the outer and inner sanctuaries, but also by creating a new religious worldview in the inner sanctuary.
A hemispherical dome with a diameter of 5.2m was installed as a canopy over the head of the Kannon, and indirect lighting was used to illuminate the entire inner sanctuary. By equalizing the luminance of the canopy, a sense of depth was eliminated when looking up, creating a light environment that evokes the emptiness of the Buddhist sky. In addition, by tilting the canopy at a 15-degree angle, the canopy was made to act as a halo for the Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva when looking up from the outer sanctuary. In order to prevent the light from reflecting on the glass case in which the Avalokitesvara is enshrined and interfering with faith, the lighting was carefully designed in terms of its position, angle, and shading.
