抄録(ABSTRACT)
In today's world, architecture is increasingly consumed as two-dimensional images through social media like Instagram and TikTok, where spaces must be instantly striking to gain attention. While modern architects like Le Corbusier once mediated architecture through mass media, today, anyone can do so-with AI now endlessly generating architectural images. Yet this image-driven culture risks exhausting our senses and narrowing the ways we experience space. In response, the author seeks to create architecture that reconnects with the body and nature.
This desire led to the design of two saunas: “SANKAKU SAUNA” in the mountains of Yamanashi and “SAZAE” by the sea on Naoshima Island. Both emphasize immersive physical experience. SANKAKU uses polycarbonate to flood the interior with natural light and seasonal colors. SAZAE, inspired by seashells and composed entirely of curves, offers a meditative space with no view outward—so that the shock of re-encountering nature is heightened after exiting.
The interior uses CNC-cut plywood to create layered folds that diffuse natural light from above, subtly marking the passage of time. Despite digital tools used in its design, construction still relies on human craftsmanship. Through this delicate manipulation of light and form, the sauna becomes more than a wellness space-it becomes a medium. By reimagining light not just as illumination but as a way to reconnect the body, time, and place, the author sees a path toward restoring architecture's deeper vitality beyond the image.
