抄録(ABSTRACT)
The purpose of this paper is to examine how the presentation and perception of “texture” have changed in museums and art museums with the development of LED lighting, using the special exhibition The Price Collection: JAKUCHU and the Age of Imagination (Tokyo National Museum,2006) as a case study.
Focusing on the diverse modes of expression found in the works of Itō Jakuchū and Edo-period painting―namely; 1) folding screens painted on gold leaf; 2) ink paintings executed on silver leaf; 3) paintings rendered with pigments, gofun, and mica; 4) variations in the color temperature of light; 5) hanging scrolls displayed in an alcove (tokonoma); and 6) folding screens such as two-panel and six-panel formats that create autonomous spatial structures―this study considers how these six categories of pictorial expression may exhibit different appearances of “texture” in relation to light and
exhibition lighting design.
